Samsung G800: Born With Amazing Features

Samsung's latest flagship product, the G800, was the world's first phone to have a 5 megapixel camera. Set to counter the launch of the N95 by Nokia, this handset did not get as much attention as it deserved but has the potential to be a sure-shot winner. The reason being that it can be positioned in the same price bracket as the N95, and has dimensions almost identical to the power packet handset from Nokia.

The most prominent feature of Samsung g800 is, of course, its camera, so let's talk about that first. The zoom feature is impeccable, with a 3X optical zoom, and the photograph does not lose focus after the zoom feature is used, something that Nokia can not boast of. It is a beautifully designed slider phone that has 160MB of internal memory with an external slot to extend it further, Bluetooth connectivity, accelerated 3G, an MP3 player, video player(with recording and streaming) and an FM radio. The phone measures 101x51.1x18 mm and weighs 146 grams; quite reasonable, considering its features. The lens is situated at the back and gives the look of a digital camera when viewed from that angle; the phone also carries a Graphical User Interface which provides the same features as any digital camera would an on-screen display shows various camera indicators on the 2.4†LCD display which displays upto 262k colours on a resolution of 320X240 pixels.

With features like an in-built picture editor, direct printing is possible to a Pictbridge compatible printer. Video editing is also provided. The phone basically seems to be a camera oriented one but has many other features as well. The MP3 player supports MP3, AAC, AAC+, 3-AAC+, WMA formats and wireless Bluetooth stereo headsets. The phone comes with a WAP browser which supports RSS feeds and works on a tri-band GSM network.

Samsung G800 - Worth the Hype ?

Samsung have soared in popularity within the UK over the last few years. Delivering quality products with realistic pricing means they have leapt above rivals such as Sony Ericsson and Motorola.

Their reputation for high end sliding phones has produced some superb examples in the past - but now we bring you slap bang up to date with the Samsung SGH-G800 a 5 megapixel 3G camera phone with just about every feature you could ever want !

I've been testing the handset over the last few weeks. The camera is obviously the strong selling point for this mobile and it functions superbly. Crisp clear photo's and video are just a click away and you can easily transfer your files afterwards via Bluetooth or use the TV out function and watch your exploits on your television from the comforts of your armchair - cool ! With a xenon flash, 3x optical zoom and auto focus, you'll never take a bad picture again. The video functions as you expect or equally commendable and offer all popular formats to choose from. Thankfully, memory will never be an issue for you with the G800 as it not only has 110Mb embedded, it also has expandable memory via microSD up to 4Gb - more than enough for me that's for sure.

I've owned quite a few samsung's over the last few years such as a D500, D900i and a U600 and was happy to see the old familiar menu system that i've become accustomed to when the G800 powered up. The menu on any Samsung is very intuitive and simple to get from one place to another.

Aside from all the usual fun items such as games, the G800 is a good business device too. With Microsoft Office, Powerpoint, Document Viewer, Mobile Printing, Voice Memo & Voice Mail it's sure to help any worker arrange their busy schedules.

The only downside to the G800 i can think of is it's size. Now, don't get me wrong this is not a big clunker of a mobile phone it is fairly small at 101.5 x 52 x 18.8 mm and weighing 129g - it's just that compared to the previous models i've owned (listed above) it's fairly thick and heavy to what i've become accustomed too that's all. But, taking into account that this has twice the features, you have to understand that the technology has to be crammed in somewhere !

All in all, the G800 is a top quality phone that i'm more than happy with !
